Tom Ploppert - Diamond Edge Cattle Knife
This is a Diamond Edge Cattle Knife pattern from one of the top traditional slip joint makers in the nation, Tom Ploppert. The Diamond Edge Cattle Knife is one of my favorite patterns and this piece is top of the line, featuring hand rubbed satin finished blades of CPM 154 steel. One of my favorite things about this knife is the combination of blade grinds, especially the leather punch. All blades have half stops and pulls are 5 - 6 on a 10pt scale, the slanted bolsters all have high polished finishes, there is the Diamond Edge shield and those lovely scales, famously referred to by Tony Bose, as African Goat Horn. This piece is brand new from Tom.
Blade lengths: 2 5/8" (primary blade), 2” (both secondary blades)
Closed: 3 3/4"

About Tom Ploppert
Tom is a relatively new maker, having made his first slip joint in 2009. He specializes in traditional style knives and won the “Best New Maker” award at the 2012 Blade Show. I met Tom at the 2012 Ft Worth Show and bought the best looking knife at the show, his, an ivory handled Trapper engraved by Joe Mason. Some background about Tom from his website: “I have always had a love for pocket knives, even as a young boy. I bought my first custom knife many years ago from Pat West of Charlotte Texas. He suggested I buy a grinder and get started making knives. A few years later I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Ruple. Bill is the inspiration behind my knife passion."
