Tim Hancock - Mosaic Damascus Lock-Back Folder
Offered from my personal collection, this exceptional lock-back folder represents a collaboration with Tim, a longtime friend. Combining his extraordinary craftsmanship with some input and materials, the mammoth scales, I personally supplied, this knife is a distinctive, highly personalized creation with special significance to any collector of Tim's work. The blade and bolsters are crafted from Tim’s Chantilly Lace Mosaic Damascus. To the best of my knowledge, Tim made only two knives using this distinctive Damascus: a folder for his wife and this example for me, making it an especially rare and meaningful piece. Gold accents elevate the design, including a gold-wrapped thumb stud, gold bolster inlays, gold pins, and a sculpted gold lock. The liners feature continuous file-work around the frame, while the exhibition-grade mammoth ivory scales provide a striking appearance. One of my favorite details on this knife is the Spanish Notch incorporated into the blade. A signature feature of Tim’s fixed-blade knives, it was an element I specifically requested for this folder. His execution is outstanding, bringing a distinctive design detail from his fixed blades into a folding knife with exceptional results. More than a beautifully executed custom folder, this knife represents a personal collaboration, a longstanding friendship, and what may be a one-of-two use of Tim’s Chantilly Lace Mosaic Damascus—a compelling addition to a discerning custom knife collection.
