Joe Kious Art Knife. This is a Joe Kious Tulip Model featuring exhibition grade black lip pearl inlays, a file worked spine, 14ct gold lock and embellished with the art of Master Engraver Tim George. The engraving which is highlighted with gold and copper inlay is Tim's interpetation of two of the works of Alberto Vargas. Alberto Vargas (1896 - 1982) became famous for his "Vargas Girls" and the name Vargas has been synonymous with pin-up and pin-up art paintings, his work was widely published in Esquire and Playboy. This piece is from my personal collection.

Alberto Vargas painted "Memories of Olive" in 1920 for Florenz Ziegfeld of Ziegfeld Follies fame. The model was Olive Thomas. In 1915 she met Ziegfeld who hired her for the "Follies" and by 1920 she was famous as a movie star.

Alberto Vargas painted "Red Head Model" in 1921. Red Heads were often featured in Vargas' work.
